The Shenandoah Recorder Society offers school concerts to local elementary schools. The month of March is our favorite time to visit schools because it is the National Recorder Month

Note from Lee
North Branch School performance.
On September 26th, SRS members Bev and Wayne Burgess, and Lee Showalter
presented a 45 minute recorder program to the students of the North
Branch School in Afton, VA.  The audience or children ranged in age from
kindergarten through 8th grade, and numbered nearly 100
The theme was to perform music and give descriptive dialog from the 14th
century through the 21st century.
The program was preceded by a short playing display of the 6 instruments
we had from the garklien up to the bass.
Our audience was most attentive and seemed genuinely interested  and
appreciative of our presentation.
Pictures to follow

Note from Lesslie

On September 19,  three members of SRS--Lesslie Crowell, Martha Maclay and Lee Showalter--gave a presentation of recorder music to two of Kevin White's music classes at Meriwether Lewis Elementary School.  The fourth graders were very excited because their recorders had been ordered but had not yet arrived.  The fifth graders were seasoned players, having studied last year.  The students enjoyed hearing selections of music from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century.  They were treated to demonstrations of all the sizes in the recorder family and were given time to ask questions at the end of the period. They were a wonderful audience and we hope it will become an annual event at MLES!
